A small subshrub, creeping perennial from the Pyrenees.
Has rounded, glossy, mid to deep green, scalloped and veined leave...Read Mores covered in white hairs. Bears small, two lipped flowers, the upper lip is purple and the lower, larger lip is a creamy white colour.
Flowers in summer between June and September in S. England
Loves a well drained, gritty soil in full sun, it doesn't have a big preference on pH and will tolerate some lime. Dislikes winter wet and may be best kept in a cold greenhouse in areas of winter rain. Ours spent the winter in the greenhouse with very little attention, it does require the occasional watering during winter though, it will let you know by curling up it's leaves, don't leave it too long after the leaf curling or it will take a while to recover.
Despite the flowers being small it's a surprisingly showy plant that invites some comment.
