Some vegetatively propagated cultivars bloom much longer and more consistently here than the species, up till first frost and a little beyond.
According to BONAP, this species has naturalized in 41 of the lower 48 states and 4 provinces.
CAL-IPC has placed it on their list of species invasive and destructive of natural habitat in California.

It was very easy to grow from seed sown in the Fall....Read More I scattered seeds over the soil and did not cover the seeds. Seeds sown in Sept. in a sunny area. By late January, the plants were already blooming! They are an excellent 4-6" tall groundcover, with a lovely purple color and a pleasant sweet fragrance. They attract bees and butterflies. Blooms repeatedly. Zone 11.
