This past December I thought I would try out propagating it from divisions -- as it seemed to be multiplying a good deal (its an own-root rose).
Success -- It divides like a dream!
I brought up one of the potted "babies" to grow it on the patio so I can enjoy it even more.
The color is sensational.
And it has a nice scent.
I just bought this plant and it didn't have much info on growing, so I contacted the growers : McDonnell Horticulture, Inc. of Cameron, N...Read MoreC. They responded the next day with the info they have on the plant. This is what they told me...."We grow these in California and then pot them for Wal-Mart in North Carolina. This is a very fragrant unique shrub rose grown on its own root. The flower color and shape are very unique. It has been grown since 1921, but to my knowledge we are the only one who still grows it in the US. It is likely to grow 3 ft x 3 ft . You can get it to bloom several times a year by trimming. Keep it in a sunny area and it will do great. Some internet entries suggest that it is a climber, but we have not seen it grow that way, so it might be a different rose. "
This is among my very favorite roses that I grow.
