When cut (and i don't on this plant because it's so beautiful in bloom) those stems are perfect length and sturdiness. We also have a St. Patrick, and interestingly enough, they look great together (side-by-side in the garden, and on the rare occasion that I actually cut my roses for arrangements). No major health issues either.
