I had always assumed the flower display would be fairly modest due to our dull climate - like that of Carpobrotus.
But when I was persuaded to go to The Lizard (a peninsular of Cornwall) I was in for a real treat. The cliffs and nearby path side verges were smothered in their silky pink flowers, extending for many acres.
We had just had the most severe frost for 25 years, so they must be reasonably hardy to have survived -even the coast was badly affected.
It was interesting that they were flowering well on flat areas of soil, and did not need to grow facing the sea to flower well - perhaps they would be successful in my garden.
This plant grows along parts of the north Cornish coast too, and they are, like Carpobrotus, regarded as a weed.

A very hardy species with very pretty purple/pink flowers.
Good ground cover for areas free of traffic.
