Will live outdoors in Phoenix in filtered sun/partial shade from spring until the hottest part of the summer. Once temps are 110+ I take ...Read Moreit in and put it in a bright window. I take it back out when temps drop again. Will tolerate some cold, but again, when it's in the low 40s at night or below, I take it back in. Not sure if this is necessary, but the plant does best this way.
I water several times a week in the summer (when outdoors) and less in the winter - basically when dry.

It lost all of its leaves (which I attributed to shipping stress) almost right away. No problem; kind of expected that. After about a week I noticed that part of the caudex felt hollow. Hmmm, better keep an eye on it... Yesterday, I found that the main body of the caudex is also going hollow. Did some more research (since, apparently, the initial research I did was inadequate) and found it LIKES a lot of water during its growing season. I drenched it and, miracle of miracles, it is already responding and the caudex is filling out. Phew!
