The flowers are solitary, showing pale yellow petals with red in the middle, turning into orange and red gradually when they are fertilized. You can have both colors on the same plant at the same time. The reproductive organs are on the top of a long structure, far away from the petals, positioned to touch a hummingbird´s forehead when it visits the flower after nectar.
