This is a clump former, not a spreader. May be divided in mid-spring.
A short-lived perennial, it usually persists by self-sowing. Fortunately, the golden color usually comes true in seedlings. It hasn't yet self-sown for us.
Grows well with irrigation under a mature sugar maple, here in Boston Z6a. In my climate, it needs shade and consistent moisture to look its best. Performs best in cool summer climates. In eastern N. America south of Z6b, summers are generally hot enough to induce summer dormancy.
