She pu...Read Moret it on the chain-link fence between us 20yrs ago, I had to put up a wood trellis to support it and save the fence within 5 years. It's a great 10 foot privacy fence now at least 30 feet long. Climbed up and throughout the lagustrom & hackberries all along the fence row. It has grown it's full height for sure! 20' and going up our snag pecan tree we lost 2 yrs ago due to drought. Here in central Texas it has survived drought and temperatures down to the teens. Very aggressive! Vines crawling on the ground set down roots And more plants sprout up. I dig them up and make 4-7 potted plants yearly. They are great gift plant but I warn that they ARE very aggressive on a fence line. ( I bet a pot on a trellis might be nice on a patio.)The flowers are delicate I see why "orchid vine" is also a name for our "butterfly vine". We separated the seed pods & used them as table ornaments at my daughters wedding. They also are fun to use in an science- art project for older kids to paint the patterns of different butterflies on. Sometime I curse it's aggressiveness but I adore the beauty and unique wonder of this vine, so I stand twix and between and checked netrual on my feelings. Mostly I think it's lovely. But it's Autumn and in full bloom with green seed pods right now. If it were late spring when I'm armed with a machete it'd be another story. Although, Because the birds like to nest in it and bees & butterflies are attracted to it that weighs down the positive side of the scale. If you're in the Texas hill country and want some, give me a holler, bring your own 6-12 inch pot with chards, ready to dig. I've got a shovel you can use.
