Creeping Baby's Breath 'Alba'

After a few years of mowing and dreading every minu...Read Morete, I sought out plants that would be carefree, look tidy, and provide color as the ditch bordered a prominent city street. I chose pink and white creeping phlox, pink creeping baby's breath, and Violet Sage salvia. I have color all season long AND NO MOWING! Originally, I covered the area with landscape fabric, cut holes for the plants, then applied wood mulch. As the mulch decomposed on top of the fabric, it provided a growing medium for the plants to self seed. It has been a life and back saver! It is very easy to transplant to other areas. One clump can be divided into several units. Only two divided clumps were needed to plant a 60' x 8' area. The area looks beatiful and doubles as a backdrop to my yard garden. I've had many neighbors inquire as to what the plant was so it could solve their slope issues. A 5-star plant as far as I'm concerned!

(though the lg. one grew from 2" to 15" wide the first season.) I transplanted the smaller one to a sunnier location this spring and it already seems to be flourishing in it's new location. I've been giving the transplant a watering every other week or so, and otherwise ignoring them both. Seems to be doing just fine with our minimal rains. They're just starting to die back after 8-9 weeks of profuse blooms here. I'm already going to see if I can shape it back a little for next year!
