I...Read Moret has sailed right through our somewhat nasty Winters just fine, so far. They are currently emerging from the ground as I type this. I have them planted in full sun, in fairly rich, humus soil. They seem to do fine where they are planted, though I believe they usually prefer more rocky and drier, well drained soils. The Frit's I have are actually the variation called 'Green Dreams', and are a plum purple colour mixed with green. They are beautiful bulbs and I am very pleased to find that they do succeed here in Minnesota.

So far, no critter problems- but they are very near tasty hosta; a deer favorite. In late May I was at Mackinac Island, considerably farther north than I and there was a stunning clump of these in a full sun flower bed at the Grand Hotel. I will be getting more just to reproduce the glorious effect.

Grew well right away. Put it in gopher wire basket to protect the juicy bulb but since I picked it from a deer-proof list (you see where ...Read Morethis is going) I planted it out in the open. Bloomed nicely for a week; then got munched.
