Medium sized up to 3.5 feet. It is named for the four-colored leaves, which are pale green, dark green, and variegated yellow and white. The flowerheads - coming in late summer - are loose, light blue or light pink. Van Gelderen says the leaves should not revert to all green, but Dirr states that the color is highly unstable and will revert.
Propagation is difficult. The plant differes from 'Tricolor' by having yellow variegation. Not cold hardy.
