'Roma II' went on to be the standard in this class, and continues today to be a very popular bean for proceesing in the U.S. 'Roma II' was also the top Romano type in Spain for many years until the variety 'Moncayo' from Dr. Ron Riley replaced it in about 1995. 'Roma II' is highly susceptable to bean curly top virus, and can be difficult to produce in desert areas where the aphid vector of curly top is present. 'Roma II'does not have the dominant I gene for control of seed born transmission of BCMV. Therefore, it can act as a "Pandora's box" if a BCMV infected field happens to be growing next to a variety that has the dominant I gene.
