This is a very slow growing hosta and because it is so, can be easily overcome by other faster growing hostas if grown too close together. Best to give this one room to slowly mature to its adult size of about 18" tall and 24" wide.
Pale lavendar to white flowers appear on 20" stems in July. This hosta does best in partial to deep shade and is tolerant of most soils, including droughty ones. I divided my Tokudama several years ago and have found that the division, which is planted in dappled shade appears to be growing better than the parent plant, which is growing in moist soil and in a brighter condition. The latter has had to fend off the advancing foliage of a nearby H. Frances Williams and was moved to my shade garden in May 2005. It is pictured blooming in June.

Seems to grow very well here in the south, but not as fast as I'd like. :) Beautiful leaf texture.
