They do well in full sun here in Central Illinois which is a zone 5A according to the USDA hardiness zone charts, 5B/6A according to the arbor day foundation charts. In full sun we do have some scalding but it does recover well and it receives no extra irrigation to stay alive. *HOSTA HVX VIRUS* The plants have been in my yard in several mass plantings since 2004. For the three years ive had them i noticed one plant always looked like the color was spotty along the veins of the leaf. I suspected it was something for the longest time but from everyone i talked with, Hostas suffered few problems. I discovered finally that it had the HVX virus. Its leaves have touched other Invincibles nearby for the whole time it was planted there but no appearances of the disease showed on the others. I have removed the one and will keep a constant watch on the others. That does seem to show that even though Invincible can catch the virus, it isnt that susceptible to it. Now the trick comes in replacing the one I dug out. It may be a while before I purchase new Hosta, until the nursery trade figures out good solutions to halt the distribution of the disease and tests thier material.
