This is a very impressive plant for large-scale ground coverage.
The original collection is said to be from where the Topa...Read Morenga Canyon in Los Angeles County heads into the Santa Monica Mountains. It's the most aggressive rhizome spreader I know of, pushing out multiple clusters of new sprouts each Winter where it gets extra water.
The actual size of each basal plant is right between S. spathacea 'Las Pilitas' and S. spathacea 'Powerline Pink' at an average blooming height of 30". It will attempt to grow above other groundcovers before blooming, however, to present its prized nectar to the local hummingbirds.
