Hybrid Tea Rose 'Francis Meilland'

Excellent exhibition form, high-center to cupped, very full (avg 37 petals), large (5") white flower with light pink center (turning all ...Read Morewhite in the heat of summer), very fragrant. Good cut flower.

Highly resistant to black spot and powdery mildew. Vigorous. Hardy to Z5 (and probably to 9b). Its landscape durability compares favorably with the Knockouts.

If you like hybrid tea roses, this is as good as they come.

2013 AARS winner. Winner of numerous European rose awards, including the 2008 ADR (Germany's trial for performance with little maintenance and no fungicide, like the Earthkind trials in the USA).

Listed as a top performer by the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden at the New York Botanical Garden, where no fungicides are used.

The cultivar name is 'MEItroni'. The others are trade names. aka Alexandre Pouchkine® and Father of Peace.

Jan 2015: Last season, a large grower in the USA distributed huge numbers of this rose infected with crown gall. This was a matter of poor hygiene on the part of the grower and not of any special susceptibility of the cultivar. Crown gall is caused by a bacterium and is contagious. The standard recommendation is to remove any infected rose with the surrounding soil and let the spot lie fallow for two years before replanting.

I got my Francis Meilland from a different source, and it's performed beautifully.

BUT with 2 >> problems,
1.Gets real TALL, HIGH as almost 7 foot tall ,with VERY LONG CANES ... Needs punning more often!!~!
2. when is done with full bloom , after couple days,.Pedals start loosing up & blown away by breeze, Pretty quick...DON'T last long .... BUT gives u LARGE FULL DOUBLE SIZE WHITE ROSE WITH hint of light pink.. SUCH AS IN SUMMER IS PURE WHITE!
VERY STRONG FRAGRANT, Lovely & beautiful BIG & BOLD delicious creamy looking rose , BUT sad thing about it,..BLOWN away quickly :(
