Hybrid Aloe 'Grassy Lassie'

After buying it in 2012, it survived a few really cold winters...Read More (Icepocalypse '14 and a big freeze in '18) in the ground without protection, other than the heavy shrubbery around it. Sadly, I think the shade from those shrubs are what eventually doomed the plant (the shrubs grew wider and I completely forgot about this aloe in the middle of them), so I blame myself for its demise. I would buy another in a heartbeat.

It survived through the first half of the winter and began to produce flower stalks. When lows in the low teens were forecasted, I mulched it heavily and covered with an overturned pot. Despite the protection, temperatures in the teens turned this plant to a pile of mush. It also did not prove to be root hardy, as it did not come back in the spring. Perhaps in an arid climate this plant might be perennially hardy to zone 7, but I would consider the z7 rating on the growers tag to be an error.
