The lavender/blue plant, however, has done better for me in the same bed. Sadly, the flower is too pale for me. I've replaced it with a Henry I aster, with a much deeper lavender, almost violet. Marie looks wonderful with Autumn Joy sedum, though. The pale lavender goes quite well with the early, lighter pink of the sedum, and the contrast of the dark, long, slender leaves of the aster against the glaucous of the sedum.
I find it bothersome to have to trim back the asters and sedum constantly all spring and summer to get a 'blanket' or 'pincushion' effect in the fall, but when I do it, I really love how it looks. I'll add a few photos.
