After nursing them back to health, I placed them in my greenhouse for the cold winter months. They grew tremendously and are now about 28 inches tall (including the umbel) with sturdy stems and basal branching. They do not have to be pinched back to branch. The medium to light green leaves are large with a slight darker green variegation. The umbels with about 28 blooms per umbel are at least 6 inches in diameter with the umbel pedicels being very sturdy and about 7 inches long. They withstand wind and heavy rain very well. The individual, flattish, orangish-scarlet florets are 1.5 inches in diameter, usually have 3 petaloids and their peduncles are without vestigial nodes. This makes the peduncles stronger so that they withstand wind and rain. The area where the petals attach on the back is white and forms a star-like pattern as the five petals meet together at the calyx. It is excellent in containers or flowerbeds and just keeps on blooming. Mine receive morning sun and afternoon filtered shade. 'Designer™ Bright Scarlet' may be propagated are by vegetative cuttings. Cuttings need at least three nodes and are usually taken in late summer.
