I planted this clone (along with about 40 others) in 1998. It has performed well, despite being in a very tough growing environment along a park road on a fill slope. It flowers reasonably well despite being in shade, poor soil, and receiving zero additional care.

I purchased this plant under the tentative identification of Hamamelis vernalis 'Brotzman's Purple'; it is also occasionally known as H. vernalis 'Purple Seedling'. The hybrid parentage was later determined, and the 'Amethyst' name was given to this exceptional plant.
