My original collection of this plant came from private marshland near Kingscote on Kangaroo Island. I have seen the plant in many places ...Read Moreover there. It appears to be quite salt tolerant, often growing in consort with other halophytic plants, such as Salicornia species. It is a very attractive small ground cover with light purple flowers. The species crassifolium is widely distributed across South Australia although most of the State Herbarium's 351 specimens have been collected from various coastal regions. I am not sure if this genuinely reflects the actual occurrence of the plant, or whether it is due to there having been less botanical work done in the arid interior of the state. I would also like to find out more about the differences between the two subspecies of this plant and their respective distributions.
