It has surprised m...Read Moree by flourishing in the worst possible location (exposed to winters' constant sub-freezing winds, growing in heavy clay soil, in partial shade.) It has very little problem with black spot, it laughed off our very hot summer without dropping a single leaf, and the blossoms just kept on rocking. In full sunlight, the flowers are an ordinary shade of dark rose-pink, but in partial shade they are a velvety, lucious black-red. The fragrance is astounding and complex, like a rich version of Sombreuil - and that's saying something! Altogether a wonderful plant!

Once in a while, a shoot will outgrow the rest of the plant, but that's easily pruned back. Definitely a must-have!
