"I was struck by its beautiful leafy form when I first caught sight of this Iguanura wallichiana more than 25 years ago and planted three in my back garden. So glad I did as they are hard to come by these days. They are slow and steady growers, needing very little care in the shady spot they have been firmly entrenched in. Native to the humid forests of Malaysia, Sumatra and Thailand, this small solitary single-trunk palm is typically 1-2 m tall, sometimes reaching up to 5 m. New fronds start reddish brown in colour and then turn to intense green. This shrubby, understorey palm forms clusters of canelike stems, each holding an open crown of arching leaves with wide, somewhat fishtail-shaped leaflets."
Malayasian understory palm- very variable... can have split, narrow or irregular leaflets, to wide, nearly entire, bifid leaflets. Seems...Read More to have a bit of cold hardiness, at least compared to most other Iguanuras... still, not really a good California palm
