Tomato 'Tom's Yellow Wonder'

When put into the garden, Tom's Yellow Wonder continued to grow strongly and flower almost immediately setting three or more tomatoes per cluster. The plant stayed completely healthy until late in the season when extended drought and heat just proved a bit too much for several varieties.

Several of the tomatoes were heart shaped and had distinct blossom end tips, and most had a faint lower quarter pink blush through their clear epidermis making them a very attractive, clear yellow bicolor with some interior streaking.

Tom sent me seeds in 2006, and says they were from his 2005 crop, so others growing seeds from a different seed parent may not be getting the same heart shapes with tips that I got. In fact, Tom himself got one plant with red fruit in 2007.

Tom's Yellow Wonder was one of my wife's two favorite tomatoes in the 2007 garden and she demands a repeat in 2008.

Tom's Yellow Wonder is a (mostly) stable cross...Read More likely of either Wonderlight x Persimmon or Wonderlight x Pineapple (IMO, based on the taste and potential for blushing, it's probably Wonderlight x Pineapple). The plant produces large yellow beefsteak fruits, sometimes with slight pink interior marbling and a pink starburst at blossom end. This marbling/blush seems to be somewhat dependent on climate, as those in warmer zones tend to get more of that extra coloration . Most that have grown it report flavor is very good to excellent.

Tom M. (Tomstrees) from Union Beach, New Jersey initially bought a 'Wonderlight' tomato at a roadside stand. He saved seed, but the following year, that's not what showed up in his garden. He really loved the result, and has continued to grow it and save seeds ever since. Tom was fortunate enough to find out recently from his Aunt who knows the lady vending the tomato, that her plants of 'Wonderlight' were between rows of Persimmon & Pineapple.
