I have a half dozen plants of this species, easily grown from seed I obtained from a seed exchange. Mine are growing (and all are surviv...Read Moreing our zone 5b winters) in a regular garden bed with composted soil, in about 3/4 sun. They have done well despite the lack of rock garden conditions, although they will never be 12" tall - more like 6", max. Very nice.

According to Allen Armitage, this species struggles north of Z5 and south of Z6 in eastern North America. It does not like hot humid summers.

I was given a very small cutting of this plant, but it has managed to survive and spread in my poor soil. Not sure exactly which cultiva...Read Morer I have, but it might be 'Splendens' (see pic)
