Not knowing this plant's name and thinking it was a salvia, I took a green branch of it from someone else's yard and I stuck it in soil. ...Read More It grew into a large approximately 4x4' plant, and for several years it bloomed profusely in the fall here in Santa Cruz, CA, two blocks from the beach. This past winter, we had a hard freeze, down into the 20's, and all the leaves wilted. All the buds are blackened and dead. I have cut it back, and some of the larger, woody branches have a greenish cast, but it has shown no signs of coming back. I recently saw another specimen at a nursery, with the correct name on it. Be aware that if you have a hard freeze, it will die unless protected. Otherwise my experience was positive.
