It dies back to close to the ground in the winters here (I don't add ...Read Moreany additional protection any more) and springs back into life with four-foot canes before the end of May, blooming profusely, with gorgeously shaped flowers, in even a somewhat shaded area. I've never seen any disease on it.
The only bad thing about this photogenic beauty is that it balls in wet weather. It sure stands up to Maine winters!
