Th...Read Moree down laid stems would certainty need snow protection during heavy frost season in winter (which is not possible here on seashore, where raining and snowing comes by turns and there are normally - 10° C up to - 25 ° C for several weeks). Normally it dies down every winter, but lower parts of stem are capable to generate new growth, so there are couple of flowers every June-July. After six years the vine is not able to grow higher than 1 meter. After long and warm summer it grows lot's of seeds, which are capable to germinate, but germination process is slow and takes several months (over 6 months). Only pruning is done in spring after I'm able to see, where are the living leaf buds. 'Toki' seems to be little bit more hardy in here than an other showy clematis 'Valge Daam' with big pure white flowers.
