Next spring they were so late to leaf out, I almost dug them out. Now I know to wait, they do take their sweet time! They also were slow growing in the beginning. Bloomed like crazy, but for about two years stayed around 2'. Then picked up speed, and now are about 7'. Beautiful shrubs. They never showed any fall color here, I fugured out they need long days of cool weather, and it gets too cold here too soon. But small size, the abundance of "smoke" and healthy green foliage totally make up for absence of fall color for me. Highly recommend.
