Nieuwoudtville. Bulb Capital. Crinum veriabile. Now in flower. This Crinum always comes into flower at the end of January. The photos were taken in the riverbed just above the Nieuwoudtville Waterfall and along irrigation ditches further down the river. In the riverbed they are now in flower by the hundreds. The water is from precipitation in the middle of January. During winter when the Doringriver is in full flood the bulbs are deeply inundated.
The Bulbs are embedded amongst the rocks in the riverbed and are never washed out during a winter storm. The leaves appear in the early summer with the flower to follow in January.
As far as I know this is the only Crinum that grows in the Cape Floral Kingdom.
