It looks like holly to me and the spines on the leaves can be wicked if you're working around it. Although it serves as an evergreen screen, I purchased it for the fragrance factor. I hope it does eventually bloom.

The planting flowers very well - visitors often turn in cirlces with their noses in the air trying to locate the source of that wonderful fragrance!
