The only other evergreen oak I know of that even competes for beauty and hardiness is Quercus hypoleucoides. It is built for the southwests’ intense heat and blazing sun, and can be planted in a completely exposed location here in Utah. The more water you give it, the bigger and more tropical the leaves look. If you live in the southwest TRY THIS TREE OUT you will not be disappointed.

Currently about 4 1/2' tall. Other than an occasional browned leaf, I haven't had any winter damage and it is planted in an exposed location. As with many oaks, the new growth comes out in flushes throughout spring and summer. Will be interesting to see how large this will get in my climate.
