"I contend it's a weed because it is extremely invasive (the stuff can grow ten feet overnight), puts out roots to China, can grow under deep mulch (plastic, organic, you name it), and smothers everything in its path. What it can't reach via nasty brittle roots and runners, it reaches through seeds, which it sends up weekly, dispersing them far and wide, to further spread its misery.
