"I am a 74 year old retiree who has recently purchased a home and is busy starting a vegetable garden, removing ivy and other invasive plants and weed, and developing a memorial garden. My wife of 50 yars has recently joined her creator. The garden is in her honor. She loved gardening, flowers, butterflies, birds, and water. The butterfly was her symbol. My landscape architect (Michael J. Delano, Therapeutic Landscapes, Inc. - info@Theraland.com 503-351-5474) has completed a set of drawings and instructions for building the garden that I want. It will be filled full of flowering plants and trees that will attract butterflies and hummingbirds, will be fragrant, and colorful. The color purple will dominate since that was her favorite color. The focus point will be solar operated water feature surrounded by color. It will be viewed on a bench under a wooden arbor with climbing minature pink roses. The background will be a tall evergreen hedge.
The garden will be raised with the concrete brick retaining wall of a height suitable for sitting. Part of the garden will be in the shade, part in shade some of the daylight hours, and most will be in the sun. We will have suitable flowering groundcover with interesting leave shape/color variations between plants.
In addition to the landscape architect I am consulting with a master gardener.
I would welcome ideas and suggestons on plants to use and their sources.
I would also welcome seeds and starts. I have little to exchange at this time but hopefully will have in the future." |
