This picture was taken in the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, in a special bed for Agaves (it was planned to represent Mexico. There´s an Aztec idol there, also).

Agave sisalana will do this frequently when it flowers... sends up a bunch of wierdly skinny flower stalks that come up around the edges of main plant

bulbils now about 5" across (been on stalk for 3-4 months now, and seem to be happily growing without any obvious sustenance)
