Roots of Campanula rapunculoides. This plant forms a dense mat of roots, which are difficult to remove because they break easily, and which prevent other plants from growing.

Campanula rapunculoides seedlings; note the thin, delicate rhizomatous roots that link together what appear to be individual plants, and the main white, carrot-like root, beneath.
