Cedar Elm (Ulmus crassifolia) leaves are small, about 2.5 - 5 cm long and 1.3 - 2 cm wide and have an oblique base. In their southern most range, they are evergreen.

The green, 0.25 to 0.5 inch long fruit of the Cedar Elm (Ulmus crassifolia) is oblong and flattened with a deep notched at the apex. It is pubescent, especially along the margins. Shown in October.

Cedar Elm (Ulmus crassifolia) bark is brown to reddish, but more often gray with flattened and broken ridges forming loose scales. (only forms on mature trunks, limbs after a minimum of 5 years)
