Here is a nice specimen growing in the xeriscape garden on the Huntington arboretum. This palm is incredibly tolerant of drought, wind and sun.

This is an unusual variety called 'Strictor' in which the leaves hardly recurve at all. This one is in Pasadena, California.

this butia is in full sun location all but the late in the day. Planted as a healthy 15 gallon specimen 2 1/2 years ago. In hot dry arizona, it likes the sun, except late day sun in the hot summer.
