I started this Datura from seeds inside in the winter and they are very slow to get going. They wait till the really warm days come to shoot up. They are really worth waiting for though.

The seed pods of Datura metel 'Black Currant Swirl' are round with little raised bumps and take several weeks to ripen. When they are ripe, they just fall apart. To collect all the seeds, loosely cover each seed pod with a fine netting. This is a picture of a ripening seed pod.

I just love the double blooms and the swirl of colors in the middle. It would be great if the bloom lasted more and a day or so.

Normally the Black Currant Swirl has double & triple blooms. This is a pic of a quad bloom. The first we've ever seen.

a friend brought me a plant that she had grown. i planted it and three and a half weeks later it bloomed. it is gorgeous and fragrant. i live in merritt island, florida.

This picture was taken at the end of September. The plant put forth triple blooms all summer until the weather cooled, and then it produced a few single blooms.

I bought this one at a hardware store in West Virginia, there were hundreds of them and nobody knew what it was, let alone that it was toxic.
