The characteristic white splotches on the bark of Ashe Juniper, Post Cedar, Mountain Cedar, Blueberry Juniper (Juniperus ashei) are a type of fungus.

A male Ashe Juniper, Post Cedar, Mountain Cedar, Blueberry Juniper (Juniperus ashei) in bloom in the winter. There is some ice left on the tree after a sleet/freezing rain storm. The pollen produces troublesome allergenic reactions in some people.

Ashe Juniper, Post Cedar, Mountain Cedar, Blueberry Juniper (Juniperus ashei) trees have a hard time handling the weight of accumulated ice/freezing rain. Many trees have broken branches as shown here at Medina Lake in the Texas Hill Country after an unusual winter storm.

Many Ashe Juniper, Post Cedar, Mountain Cedar, Blueberry Juniper (Juniperus ashei) trees and shrubs covered in ice suffered damage after an unusual ice/freezing rain storm in Central Texas. These large branches and trunks were broken and were too heavy to move from across the road even though some of the ice had started to melt.
