Great succulent, large fleshy leaves that are blue gray green. Offsets with little plants around the mother plant hense the name "Hen and chickens". Needs protection from sever frost or freezes. Prefers loose will drained soil. Blooms late Spring to mid Fall with tall spikes of blooms that are pinkish yellow with red lip margin. Thrives on water, but do not overwater, needs very good drainage. Have finally got it to survive outside in Western Washington state by planting in a raised bed with excellant drainage and some overhead protection from bigger plants.

Here they love growing between the cracks of the raised flowerbed. Brings them closer to view and provides excellent drainage.

Identical twins? No. One is actually an offshoot of the other, and has now grown to be the same size as its parent. {Note: the parent is a rescue so its age is unknown; offshoot is 1 year.}

July 2006, so many pups :-) Grew these beauties in Hawaii and now in Washington State. Couldn't get more than one pup to "live" in Hawaii, but here in Washington....they just multiply. Love the blue-green color. I'm growing these on the North side of my home (shade side). Will attempt to grow them on the South side (sunnier) in Spring 2007. This is probably my favorite succulent!
