Annual plant up to 3-1/2' tall with slightly hairy stems and numerous, alternate, compound leaves. Flowers are single or in small groups on stalks arising from where the main leaves join the stem. Each flower is up to 1-1/2" wide with 5 pointed, narrow, green sepals, alternating with 5 rounded bright yellow petals and 10 yellow to dark reddish stamens. The upper petals have dark reddish bases. Blooms Summer to Fall.

Grows wild in this area (coastal NJ). Leaves are "sensitive" like Mimosa pudica, but not to as great an extent. You can see a seed pod or two just below the flowers.
