I have had this sweetgum for about 7 years. It is always the last tree in the hood to turn. Generally from mid to late december.

This is a branch of 'Rotundiloba' that reverted - I cut it off. Note that the leaves are pointed and it's forming normal seed balls.

Young Seedless Sweetgum Tree

This is a bloom that 99.99% of the time will only produce a mushy sweetgum ball or nothing at all. Last year I noticed 1 solid sweetgum ball

Yes, that is a sweetgum ball. That is the extent of its growth. From there it dries up and falls off.
