Pitch Pines about 60 feet/18 meters tall. Growing in sandy loam among Sour Gum trees, Hollies, and Oaks. There's a good possibility these trees are hybrids with Pond Pine, Pinus serotina

The cones have stiff, sharp prickles. Something's been eating these cones; they usually stay in the tree, but there is a drought where this picture was taken.

Epicormic shoots on the trunk. Of the pine trees, only Pitch Pine and Pond Pine trees do this.
