Golden-Eye Phlox, Roemer Phlox (Phlox roemeriana) bloom petals open until they are almost flat. The pinkish purple lines pointing to the corolla tube are called nectar guides which assist insects with locating the center of the bloom. This helps the bloom become pollinated and helps the insect locate nectar quickly.

Golden-Eye Phlox, Roemer Phlox (Phlox roemeriana) leaves are up to 2” long and 3/8” wide. They are covered with soft hairs. Due to their small size, they are usually hidden by the foliage of other plants.

The blooms on this Golden-Eye Phlox, Roemer Phlox (Phlox roemeriana) do not have white around their centers, just a slightly lighter color. The "yellow" is more of a gold than that of the previous specimen of which I posted a photo. They do have guide lines. This plant is so short that debri was splattered onto its petals during a heavy rain.
