Velvetweed, Lizardtail Gaura, Downy Gaura (Gaura mollis) blooms are in long, bent or nodding, terminal flower spikes; hence one of its common names "Lizardtail Gaura". The flower tubes (hypanthiums) are red.

Velvetweed, Lizardtail Gaura, Downy Gaura (Gaura mollis) stems and leaves are covered with soft hair, hence the names "velvetweed", "velvet gaura" and "downy gaura". The hairs on the stems are longer and thicker than those on the leaves.

This has the flower tassles, seeds and leaves. Flowers are too small but are pink.
