This beautiful 8' potted shrub can be relied upon to bloom all winter, indoors, in a northern greenhouse. It's cultural demands are minimal. It's my favorite!

H. schizopetalus is native to East Africa but now grows world wide in the tropics. I started my plant from a cutting 15+ years ago. It is outdoors in my backyard in San Diego, CA and measures 10' tall & 12' wide. Blooms appear May-June and Sept-Nov. Photo taken indoors for clarity on 5-6-2004. WTH. .

Closeup of my Hibiscus Schizopetalus ... I brought this bloom in this morning so that we could enjoy it all day (the rain came pouding down for the rest of the day about an hour later).

This plant is about 2 1/2 years old and is starting to show the drooping branch habit typical of the species. Great to espalier!
