Also known as a Hawaiian Blue Ginger, is not a true ginger, but in the wandering jew family. Blooms summer and fall, with clusters of blue flowers.

I thought this was a very nice combination: Dichorisandra with Mandevilla. Picture taken at Pinewood Estate (Historic Bok Sanctuary, Lake Wales, FL) near the servant's entrance to the kitchen. A gardener there told me it might as well be named "glass plant" because the stems and roots are so brittle it won't withstand shipping, therefore we don't see it offered in the plant trade much.

Blue Ginger (Dichorisandra thyrsiflora) can grow up tp 8 feet tall in areas where it is not affected by freezes. Observed growing in Maui in October.

Got plant from neighbour; no idea what it was. Now, thanks to Dave's Garden identified it as Dychorisandra thyrsiflora. Fantastic!
