It is listed elsewhere as a 10b plant, and perhaps I have been very lucky so far... but I think 10b is a bit overkill on its lack of cold hardiness. However, saying that, temps into the high 20s did destroy much of what was growing in my garden (freak freeze Jan 07).
It is a aggressively suckering thin, columnar plant about 1/2" in diameter and intensely spiny... I thought it was a cactus at first until someone pointed out the very non-cactus looking spines on it. Forms tight clusters of short columns up to about 18" tall, and starts to branch a bit with age.
